Blockchain in Healthcare

Blockchain is all about security—in data, information and perhaps even wisdom. It is slowly moving into healthcare, as this piece describes, in the drug and device supply chain, medical staff credentialing, and managing electronic health records. In due course, it may also work for documenting informed consent, managing clinical trial data, tracking FDA regulations and releases, and resolving insurance claims. Like other innovations, blockchain is disruptive, and perhaps its greatest barrier to adoption is that healthcare managers love disruptive innovation, “so long as it’s nothing new” (to borrow an astute observation from inventor and humorist Jeffrey Carlisle).
