Heretofore, most of the news about CRISPR was about gene editing, unintended off targeting, and the patent fight between the University of California and MIT. But while this was ongoing, researches have been working on a new application—i.e. using CRISPR to fish out RNA snippets from blood as a diagnostic for early surveillance of Lassa, Ebola, Zika, and other viruses that plague the world.
