Molecular Surgery for Cartilage
May 21, 2019 | Terry Sharrer
Two California scientists have experimentally developed a new means of reshaping cartilage without surgery. They insert a needle into tissue (e.g. the nose) and pass an electrical current through it. The current ionizes water in the tissue and softens it. Then, they use a mold to reshape the structure and allow it to harden. The procedure does not require general anesthesia and takes only 5 minutes, but it has not yet been tried in people. It might also apply to altering tendons and corneas. MORE
