Growing Blood Vessels

For a long time, researchers have assumed that the interior structure of a blood vessel was more crucial than the exterior—i.e. endothelial cells comparted to perivascular cells. Recently though, University of Virginia cell biologists discovered that the stem cell pluripotent factor Oct4 regulates the migration of both cell types during angiogenesis. This could be a fundamental breakthrough in growing transplantable organs. MORE
