Smart pills with tiny needles
In a foreseeable future, insulin injections, vaccinations and IV drips might be replaced with smart pills and their tiny needles. “The device works by attaching itself to the inside of the stomach and then injecting a payload through the gastric wall. It involves some clever engineering to ensure it’s released at exactly the right time: a tiny, spring-loaded needle is released once the sugar glass that surrounds it is dissolved by acid in the stomach.” Engineers at MIT took inspiration for this device from a tortoise that can self-right itself.
