Considering the long standing sports rivalry between Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, it might come as a surprise that they can collaborate successfully. This piece describes such a working-together to develop a hydrogel for woman undergoing brachytherapy. It replaces packing gauze in the cervix to stem bleeding from the radiation while also lessening pain. Commercial development may begin in 2021 for a Charlottesville company “Brachyfoam.” MORE
