Whether a gene mutation initiates cancer, or a post translational modification to the gene’s protein is the culprit, the disease expresses itself in protein-protein interactions. Knowing this, a professor of physics at Syracuse University is developing nanobiosensors—i.e. nanopore molecular probes–that can analyze the proteomics of cancer, specifically lymphoblastic leukemia.
