Human papilloma virus has one hundred subtypes, five of which can cause cervical cancer. Consequently, a point-of-care microfluidic device that can identify the pathogen of greater risk—and do so at room temperature, in an hour or less, costing $1, and with a 95% accuracy– is a breakthrough in itself, not to mention offering the same features for Zika, Ebola, hepatitis, dengue, malaria, et al. National University of Singapore scientists name this device “enVision,” for “enzyme-assisted nanocomplexed for visual identification of nucleic acids.” MORE
