Making Nanoparticles Stick in the Liver

Various kinds of nanoparticles are possible drug delivery vehicles in the body. This report tells of work at Drexel University where bioengineers have coated nanoparticles targeting the liver with two layers of polyethylene glycol—the first, so called “hairy polymer shells,” to reduce macrophages from clearing the particles from blood, and the second, of lower density, to bind with hepatocytes.
