Engineers at Arizona State University have created a medical material for closing wounds that, in some cases, is seven time stronger than sutures, staples or glue. The material is made of gold nanorods and silk fiber. When near-infrared light strikes the nanorods, it produces heat that activates the silk into forming a strong seal. MORE
