Relay Robots in Hospital Service

Medical automation company Swisslog (US hqs, Bloomfield, CO) and robot maker Savioke (San Jose, CA) have collaborated to install autonomous service robots in several US hospitals. Called a “Relay Robot,” this machine can transport surgical specimens, drugs, small devices and even snacks throughout a hospital, as it can operate elevators, open doors, and squeeze through congested areas. This is another example of how to make an “autonomous hospital,” following the Navy’s lead of the autonomous aircraft carrier—both capable of operating on one tenth the normal staff. MORE
