New process for Growing Blood Vessels
October 23, 2018 | Terry Sharrer
Texas A&M University engineers have developed a clay-based method for slowly delivering angiogenesis factors to tissue, as might be used in burn healing. According to this piece: the process relies on “nanosilicates, that delivers multiple specialized proteins called growth factors into the body to stimulate new blood vessel formation. To allow blood vessels time to form, the clay is designed to prolong the release through its high surface area and charged characteristics,. . . ” Also mentioned is work on bioactive scaffolds and implants, as would be useful in growing replacement organs.
