X-ray, Nanobubble Delivery of Anticancer Chemo
September 4, 2018 | Terry Sharrer
“Nanobubbles,” aka liposomes, have shown usefulness in drug delivery before, but their limitation has been in tissue targeting and releasing their cargoes at the right time. To address these limitations, researchers at the Center for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (a collaboration of three Australian universities and other partners) have shown how they embedded verteporfin (a photo-sensitive molecule) into the liposome’s membrane, injected this preparation at a tumor site, and then used radiation to burst the liposome, thus releasing the drug load. Presumably, this method might be useful in several other disease situations. MORE
