Synthetic T Cells

According to this piece, researchers at UCLA’s dental school were able to create soft, flexible microparticles that mimic functional T cells. Quoting directly, “We were able to create a novel class of artificial T cells that are capable of boosting a host’s immune system by actively interacting with immune cells through direct contact, activation or releasing inflammatory or regulatory signals.” The “UCLA” news link has more of the details about how these synthetic cells began as mineral oil and alginate.
