Printing Bone Implants of PEKK
September 11, 2018 | Terry Sharrer
Just as dentists can now 3-D print teeth in practices, independent surgical centers may soon begin printing bone implants, including large pieces of the skull, in their own facilities. Oxford Performance Materials (OMP, South Windsor, CT) has developed 3-D printing of bone on-growth implants using a material called PEKK (poly-ether-ketone-ketone) which originally was a DuPont discovery. With a Japanese partner, OMP expects to begin commercialization in 2019. PEKK has been FDA approved for medical applications. MORE
