Implantable Heart Monitor with Smartphone App

Last year, when Abbott Laboratories acquired St. Jude Medical it picked up an implantable heart monitor which already has FDA approval. Now it is ready for sale and implantation under the skin of a patient’s chest. According to this piece: “It’s an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM), also known as an implantable loop recorder, called Confirm Rx that, once implanted, can continuously monitor a patient’s heart rate and, using Bluetooth wireless technology, transmit collected data to physicians via a smartphone app. Abbott claims it is the “world’s first smartphone-compatible ICM.” MORE
