Detecting Alzheimer’s Decades Earlier

Misfolded amyloid beta, forming plaques, has long been suspected as a key to understanding how Alzheimer’s disease causes dementia and death. But healthy brain tissue also presents amyloid beta. Knowing this, researchers in Germany and Japan have developed a blood plasma test that reveals both normal and pathogenic amyloid beta which could indicate Alzheimer’s conditions decades before recognizable symptoms become noticeable.
