Nanobots for Treating MRSA

Using gold nanowires coated with platelets and red blood cells, bioengineers at the University of California in San Diego have demonstrated a novel method for fighting MRSA infections. Methicillin-resistant Staphyloccus aureuscauses damage in two ways: the bacterium destroys platelets, while toxin it generates degrade red blood cells. The nanobots described in this piece bind both, and an ultrasound acoustic field speeds up the binding. MORE
