First 3D Printed Corneas
August 14, 2018 | Terry Sharrer
Tissue engineers at Newcastle University (UK) have created a bioink from corneal stromal cells, alginate and collagen that they then used with a 3-D printer toprint artificial corneas. The alginate and collagen encapsulate the corneal keratocytes to protect them as the printer lays down layers. There’s no description in this piece about incorporating unmyelinated nerve endings.
