Anti-Viral Surgical Masks

Pictures from the Great Influenza at the end of World War I show groups of people wearing surgical masks to prevent contracting the disease, which may have killed as many as forty million worldwide. They could not have known the masks offered no protection at all. The virus passed right through the material. If another influenza pandemic comes, researchers at the University of Alberta believe they have a mask that will work—one that is impregnated with salt, which attracts aerosol droplets containing the virus and destroys it.
