RNA Injection Restores Hearing in Lab Animals

After sound-blasting anesthetized guinea pigs to the point of deafness, scientists at the Hough Ear Institute (Oklahoma City) exposed the animals’ cochlea to nanoparticles carrying small interfering RNA’s that targeted the Hes1 gene which encodes a nuclear protein that suppresses DNA to RNA transcription. With that they were able to restore some level of hearing by regenerating hair cells. MORE
