Brain tissue regenerated in mice after stroke
Using an alginate hydrogel infused with vascular endothelial growth factor and other agents, researchers at UCLA were able to fill an area of dead brain cells in mice and thereby regenerate nerve and blood vessel formation. The gel created a scaffold that supported this growth, and was eventually absorbed by the body leaving only the regenerated tissue. MORE
