CRISPR Versatility

CRISPR is best known as a gene editing technology, but this report adds three other utilities—a dip stick diagnostic (SHERLOCK), means for molecular data gathering (CAMERA), and a way to identify infectious disease biomarkers (DETECTR). All three are based on using different (other than Cas9) RNA guide sequences. These tools point toward the next generation of highly specific point-of-care tests which can target any genetic sequence. MORE
