A Lung-Liver-Gut-Endometrium-Brain-Heart-Pancreas-Kidney-Skin-Skeletal Muscle “Body-on-a-Chip” Device

Aimed at drug testing, MIT engineers have created a physiome chip, aka “body-on-a-chip,” that has one to two million cells per well for ten different organs. Among other things in pharmacology, this might show how a drug aimed at a particular organ might have adverse effects on others. Perhaps it could also resolve some of the mysteries of a disease such as ataxia telangiectasia which presents brain lesions, malabsorption in the gut, and blood vessel inflammation. MORE
