What Could Medicine Do with Digital Voice Assistants?

“Alexa, where is Timbuktu?” That’s an easy one. “Alexa, what is the optimal temperature for storing neuronal stem cells?” That’s a little harder, but harder still, “Alexa, tell Siri to adjust the temperature to your specification in the neural stem cell bank.” This piece doesn’t pose those kinds of questions; digital voice assistance, which generated much buzz at last month’s Consumer Electronics Show, are still focused on controlling home appliances and ordering up music. But with five billion DVA’s already in use, there is a market and the near future may have lots of DVA’s communicating with each other in hospitals, laboratories, and home health venues.
