An MRI scan can determine the size of a plaque in the carotid arteries, but cannot predict if a plaque is stable, or unstable and likely to cause a stroke. University of Oxford scientist, however, have used a mapping method that gives quantitative data on the amount of cholesterol in a plaque and confirmed its accuracy regarding stroke risk. MORE
