Insights on Molecular Diodes

Miniaturization is a mantra for designing electronic biosensors and other devices, particularly implantable ones. Most of today’s electronic biosensors are circuits based on silicon, but advances in molecular diodes may now have the capacity (i.e. rectification ratio) to rival silicon. This piece describes a molecular diode developed in a collaboration between engineers at the Universities of Central Florida, Limerick, Ireland, and Singapore, that equals performances of silicon-based electronics while being much cheaper to fabricate.
