Human Inner Ear Organoid
Stem cell-derived tissue from any organ offers a way to test therapeutic drugs. In this piece, Indiana University scientists grew organoids of inner ear tissue. First they employed CRISPR gene editing to engineer stem cells with fluorescently-labeled tissue of inner ear sensory cells. Rather than do this in Petri dishes, they cultured the cells in a floating ball which allowed the organoid to develop in three dimensions. MORE
