New Contact Lens Senses Glaucoma and Diabetes
This piece reports on smart contact lenses developed by two university labs in South Korea. What’s different about this one, compared to earlier attempts, is that the wires of the sensors are transparent, allowing unobstructed vision. These smart lenses can detect intraocular pressure and tear glucose levels. Tear and blood sugar levels are not the same, but as long as the tear glucose sensor is sensitive enough and consistent enough to provide good readings, it should be a useful monitor for diabetes.
