MRI Powered Gun for Tissue Penetration

According to this piece, MRI machines generate enough electromagnetic energy to move swarms of micro robots though the body to deliver drugs or, with a self-assembling robotic Gauss gun, to penetrate tumor tissue. Gauss guns are devices which use coils wrapped around a barrel to accelerate a ferromagnetic projectiles. “This technique is most promising for targeting hard-to-reach areas that are deep inside the body,” one of the University of Houston engineers said. “We also foresee an impact on how real-time MR imaging is conducted, and in addition to drug delivery, we are pursuing small surgical interventions, including cyst penetration.” MORE WITH VIDEO
