A 3-D Printed “Eagle Eye” Lens

Camera innovations that support driverless cars and flying surveillance drones might also be used to have better vision from within the human body. To those ends, engineers at the University of Stuttgart have used 3-D printing to make four lenses with different focal lengths that feed their digital data into a single image sensor. The computed picture is super sharp in the center, while having a 360 degree field of view—much like an eagle’s eye. MORE
