Glucose Sensing Contact Lens

“Blood, Sweat and Tears” used to be a jazz-rock band, but now this trio refers to detecting diabetes. Blood, sweat and tears all contain glucose; so conceivably analytic devices might be worn on the arm or upon the eye. This piece describes how University of Houston researchers built a contact lens from layers of gold wire on a gold film which senses tear glucose levels. It mentions that tear glucose might not give the same value as serum glucose, but perhaps that isn’t necessary if the tear reading accurately shows higher or lower sugar levels. MORE
