For those who don’t remember Graham Chapman’s 1989 hilarious review of Australian table wines (Monty Python’s Flying Circus), here’s a replay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbOZccv9ym8 But, of course, Australian wines now have a major world presence, and the piece here, about an electronic tongue, describes a device that can detect the wine’s age, the kind of barrel it was aged in, and its quality features. Admittedly, this is a stretch from medical automation, but an electronic tongue should also be useful in mapping out the neurobiology of taste. MORE
