A Bioabsorbable Heart Valve

Children born with defective pulmonary heart valve disease had to rely on animal or human cadaver tissue for repairs, until now. This fall, surgeons at hospitals in Hungary and Poland implanted artificial valves made of bioabsorable material in three pediatric patients and, thus far, all have been discharged and are doing well. The artificial valves are manufactured by Xeltis AG in Zurich, Switzerland. MORE
