Nanoparticles and Lasers to Kill Tumor Cells
October 25, 2016 | Terry Sharrer
In a new approach to laser ablation of tumors, researchers at the University of Copenhagen have used nanoparticles (150 nm in diameter) of gold coated glass spheres which they injected into tumors during animal studies. They then applied near infrared laser light which caused the nanoparticles to heat up and kill the tumor’s cells. In further work, they aim to see if these particles could be injected into the blood stream to reach multiple metastases. MORE
