Assistive Robots vs Motivating Apps
One of the questions a panel of robotic engineers addressed at a conference this past June was the relative value of assistive robots and smartphone apps in motivating people to improve their health behaviors. Since the participants came from robotic engineering companies, apps got the short end of the discussion, but much attention focused on artificial intelligence programming that can sense habitual thoughts, fears and sympathies which drive behaviors. That moved to the question of “can robots ever develop the ability to be creative?” One participant didn’t think so, because there is no standard way to be creative which would lend itself to artificial intelligence adaptation. Thus, be alert for creative artificial intelligence making news. MORE
