Fingerprint analysis for crime investigation has been around since the late 19th century, but even a detective like “Sherlock Holmes” could not determine whether incriminating prints came from a man or a woman. But that has now changed, as analytical chemists at the University of Albany have shown that females have twice as much amino acid residues in their finger sweat as males. Testing this idea resulted in 99% accuracy. Might there also be potential for medical diagnosis from fingerprints? MORE
