Illumina’s “PopArray” for Population Health
November 17, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
DNA sequencing machine manufacturer Illumina (San Diego, CA) has taken a surprising step toward a competing technology, microarray, for a “big science” project that will survey 150,000 genomes from different ethnicities, for “background” health characteristics. Using several 50k SNP arrays, aggregated to represent 750k arrays, the company hopes to find new insights for pharmacogenomics, biomarker profiles, and genetic risk assessment. This “PopArray” project, of course, could enhance the market for more extensive DNA sequencing. MORE
