Cobots Are Coming

Healthcare is different from most other kinds of work because the object of attention—the patient—is alive. Nevertheless, a hospital has numerous processing lines—pharmacy, laundry, food service, billing, environmental systems, et al—which lend themselves to automated labor. This piece is about collaborative robots (or “cobots) that work alongside people in semi-automated processes, without requiring safety cages. For cost, task adaptability precision and reliability, these machines may bridge a transition to a significantly automated hospital. MORE
