Cleveland Clinic doesn’t grasp at every healthcare innovation, but when it sees a technology that can efficiently and economically address the most common healthcare needs, while potentially expanding its market share, it acts. . . and acts. . . and acts. Last year, it offered virtual consultations at its “Healthspot” kiosks. Now, patients can download a free app, which after a registration and payment setup, allows people to use a smartphone, iPad or computer to call in for basic consultation. The cost for the call is $49. An urgent care visit for the same might cost twice as much; a physician’s office visit, three times as much; and an ER visit, ten times as much. MORE
