A Wearable to Ease Migraines
September 1, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
The three-branched trigeminal nerve transmits sensations from the head to the brain’s orbitofrontal cortex and rostral cingulate, where migraine headaches emanate. Stimulating the trigeminal nerve with high frequency impulses can relieve and even prevent migraines, and for that purpose a Belgian company, CEFALY Technology (US branch in Darien, CT) has produced a wearable headset which recently the FDA has approved. It would be interesting to know what, if any, benefit this possibly could have for other disorders of the brain’s cortex, or even deeper, to the midbrain and substantia nigra. MORE
