Perspective on “Next Generation Sequencing”

DNA sequencing holds great insight for predicting, diagnosing, preventing, and treating cancer, cardiovascular disease and kidney disease, but the clinical reality of that seems just beyond our reach. First there’s a question about accuracy, and then another about the interpretation of perhaps thousands of genes, and yet another about the cost/benefit. This piece reviews these issues, though it’s entirely possible that the rapidly changing landscape of this technology could create sudden breakthroughs. MORE
