The central nervous system does not present lymphatic vessels, or so neuroanatomists have thought at least since Santiago Ramon y Cajal’s time. But now that supposition is overturned by researchers at the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine. With careful dissection of mouse brain and mounting the tissue on slides, this team found meningeal lymphatic vessels were present. Is it possible that Alzheimer’s results when beta amyloid can’t be cleared through these lymphatic routes? Might drugs be designed to change that condition?
