Johns Hopkins engineers have designed a microfluidics chip that can demonstrate which antibiotics work against which pathogens. A key piece of this is fluorescent probes that have affinity for specific pathogens. Once the probes and pathogens have been mixed, they are drawn through the lab chip which has various antibiotics are placed in different channels. Accumulated probes indicate the killing affinities.
