Smartphone Otoscope

For some time now, it looked like medical kiosks with their digital instruments for examining patient’s ears, nose and throat would be a cost efficient way to keep non-emergency illnesses out of hospital emergency rooms. But the kiosk idea may fade if a smart phone with various digital attachments can serve the patient more conveniently. In 2013, a San Francisco startup, Cellscope, developed the first version of its otoscope for use with a smart phone. Now it is available as either a physician’s or home model.
