Instead of a caduceus, an infusion pump might be a better image of modern medicine. They are both ubiquitous and cranky. When they work well, they can be lifesaving, but all too often they don’t work well. They can fail and allow “free flow” leading to overdose, or clog to prevent an effective dose delivery.
