Leaf Patient Sensor
Bedsores most commonly present in hospitalized patients who are not moved sufficiently to relieve pressure on blood vessels near the surface of the skin. Other factors (moisture, protein malnutrition, thin skin) can be involved, but turning the patient in bed is how most hospitals avoid a situation of causing harm to the patient (physical) and the hospital (financial). Chino Valley Hospital (Pleasanton, CA) now is the first hospital in the country to require that certain inpatients wear a motion detector to prevent pressure ulcers. The device they chose is the “Leaf Patient Monitoring System,” a tri axial accelerometer, which sticks to a person’s chest. MORE
