Culturing Neurons on Patterned Nanofibers in 3D Hydrogels
January 6, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
Neuron regeneration has enormous potential for people suffering from all kinds of central nervous system traumas and degenerative diseases. This piece reports a novel approach for constructing 3D neural tissue by culturing neurons on patterned nanofiber scaffolds within 3D hydrogels. Biochemical modification of the surface of the nanofibers enhances neurite length and exerts significant control over the direction of neurite outgrowth in three dimensions. These methods should also support stem cell seeding, with appropriate growth factors. MORE
