The One Minute POC Test for Anemia

Today, it’s only a distant memory, before 1980, of what it was like for a Type 1 diabetic to get a serum glucose reading. It, at least, required frequent physician visits and possibly lab tests too. The personal glucometer, which required a drop of blood on a paper strip that changed color, transformed the endocrinology trade. Now, a very similar approach has been developed for anemia: a drop of blood, mixed with reagents in a small vial changes color from red to green-blue depending on the amount of hemoglobin in the sample. With smartphone cameras and colormetric apps, it’s possible to track anemia day by day, perhaps only adjusting dietary iron to keep a steady state. MORE
