It make take a willing suspension of disbelief to see this wearable artificial kidney allowing dialysis patients to go about their daily activities at school and work, but this 10 lb. apparatus is a stroke of genius for miniaturization compared to a washing machine-sized dialysis center version. The major advantage, however, is that in continuously filtering as little as a half-liter of water, the procedure doesn’t require the 30 gallons dialysis patients normally need during a four hour session.
